		<description>I am in the North Bay near Santa Rosa. My climate is about the same as yours. You might try growing Crane melons, delicious. They were developed by a local farmer about three miles from where I live. Fourth generation is still growing them for sale there.</description>

		<description>I planted hale&#039;s best jumbo 5 years ago, I had the same results, ok tasting, not much better than store melons  That same year I also planted one variety of sierra gold, trust me, it is delicious!!!!!!!!!! It matures on average five days later than hale&#039;s best jumbo. Try it!

Also do not water the melons much once the fruits began to grow halfway to maturity, watering them often reduces the sugar content inside the fruit.
