The cultivar I selected (Vincent) only needs about 200 hours of chill, and San Jose typically gets 600-800 hours, so you should be fine even with the Hayward cultivar which needs 700. Only one of the peonies I planted last season sprouted, and it didn't grow much. I think I didn't water it enough. It probably needs to be watering regularly. Thanks for reading!
